Things To Do on Temple Square at Christmas Time

Temple Square at Christmas time is just a magical place!

Workers and volunteers began to place lights in trees and bushes way back in September.  It was just amazing how many little strands of lights were put into trees via cherry picker equipment.

The lights are turned on the Friday after Thanksgiving and stay on until January 1. Besides seeing them at night, we would often see some still on in the morning if we went to work early.  We can't tell you how wonderful it was to be surrounded by these lovely lights all the month of December.

We were able to go to Music and the Spoken Word with Joy and Willy to catch some early December music.  And then we went to it with Clay and Amie on New Years morning.

Besides the lights though, there are concerts every night and musical groups singing during the lunch hour in the COB and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  We ate lunch several times and listened to them.  One night Chris' and Bert's nephew Wade was singing with a special musical group that includes an orchestra.

We were able to walk through the lights on Temple Square to get to the tabernacle to watch their performance.  It just added to the Christmas fun!

A highlight of the season though was the annual Christmas performance of the Tabernacle Choir
with guest performers.  Beforehand though, we went to Kneaders in City Creek to grab dinner.  Who should be there to greet us but Santa himself!  (We also saw old friends, Irene and Gary Bole there.)

Chris generously gave us two tickets to attend. the concert.  Although we have purchased a number of the DVD's from past performances, this was our first time to see it live.  We sat in the balcony, so we had a great view of everything.  I just wished that we had the binoculars from Clay and Amie that they gave us a few years ago.

The performers making their grand entrance!

The organists played a trio together.
